Pain and Promises

RELECTION QUESTIONS:

1. What happens in this story is not a punishment for sin, but a display of the consequences and pain of sin. What is the difference between punishment and consequences? Why is it important to make this distinction?

2. When you think about the pain and brokenness you see in your life or in the world—whether caused by your own sin, someone else’s sin, or simply living in a fallen world—how do you usually respond? How could bringing that pain honestly to God change the way you process it?

3. After the child died, David went to the house of the Lord and worshiped. Why do you think turning to worship in moments of deep pain can be difficult? What are some practical ways we can lean on God’s mercy when we are experiencing grief, guilt, or consequences?

4. God brought redemption even out of David’s darkest failure, ultimately through the line of Solomon leading to Jesus. How have you seen God bring good or growth out of painful or sinful situations in your life? How does the promise of redemption in Christ give you hope today?
