Discussion Questions:
When you think of Jesus as the “light of the world,” what is the first thought that comes to your mind? Does knowing the context in which Jesus made this statement change your view of the metaphor at all?
Can you think of a time when your trust in Jesus as the light has allowed you to ‘see in the dark’ (gave you hope during a difficult time)?
Read Matthew 5:14-16, John 12:35-36, and 1 John 1:5-7. Consider these verses in relation to what Jesus says in John 8:12.
If Jesus warned others about the consequences of unbelief, shouldn’t we do the same? How can we warn others without sounding overly condemning or judgmental?
Do you truly believe that others can believe in the gospel when you share it just as they did when Jesus preached? Who can you share the light with this week?
