Meet Our
Senior Pastor
Ben Day

The membership at First Baptist Church of San Francisco voted on Sunday, August 9, 2020 to call Pastor Ben Day to become our next senior pastor. Pastor Ben joyfully accepted our invitation! We are excited and look forward to what the Lord has in store for both FirstSF and the Day Family.

Thank you, church family, for the hospitality and love you showed to Pastor Ben and his family last week.  The Day Family was very touched by the kindness shown to them and they mentioned several times that they could really see the love we have for FirstSF.  We're so excited for you to get to know each one of them better.  We know you join us in looking forward with anticipation to this new season in FirstSF's long and rich history in loving and living for Jesus. -- The Leadership Team & Pastor Search Team

Dear Firstsf,

In Proverbs 16:9, Solomon writes, “The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”  When I began studying engineering at LSU, I did not think that God would call me to be a pastor.  Growing up in Louisiana, I never thought God would call me to live in Las Vegas or San Francisco.  I have made many of my own plans in life, but I have learned that God’s plans are often different and are always better.

I know that 2020 has not gone like any of us have planned.  It seems like everything has been changed.  But I can’t tell you how excited I am about becoming the Senior Pastor of FirstSF!  Over the past few years, God has placed a desire on my heart to pastor a church in an urban area of a major city.  When I saw that FirstSF was searching for a pastor, I began to pray that it would not just be my plans but God’s plan that I would be called to serve here.  Meeting with the Pastor Search Team over the past months has confirmed in my heart and mind that this is where God is calling my family and me.  I am humbled to be considered for this position and am honored to be your new Senior Pastor.

Blessings, Pastor Ben

My Testimony:

I was blessed to grow up in a Christian home with godly parents who shared God’s love and truth with me and my two older sisters. As a young child, I recognized that I needed a savior and that Jesus alone could offer forgiveness from my sins. I placed my faith in Jesus Christ and after conversations with my parents and pastor, I was baptized shortly after my eighth birthday.

While those watching from the outside would probably say that I never had any “rebellious years,” I certainly had a lot to learn about walking with God and being a Christian during my teenage years. I thought being a Christian was just about being a good person and following the rules. So I did my best to be a good person, and when I messed up, I would try to hide it so that people would continue to see me as a good person. But thankfully God brought some awesome people into my life who taught me about the goodness of God’s grace and the importance of continually confessing and turning from my sin.

It’s because of my experiences that I’m so passionate about consistently preaching the gospel. The gospel is not just the message for how you become a Christian, but also how you live as a Christian. Being a Christian is about continually trusting in Jesus’ atoning work, turning from your sin, and seeking to live in God’s design. This was an important truth that I had to learn and one that I want to share with everyone else.

My Calling to FirstSF:

For the past few years, I have been sensing a call from God to be “in the city.” I didn’t know exactly what that meant, but I knew that God wanted me to be in an area where there are many people and where there is a great need for gospel ministry. When I saw that FirstSF was located in the heart of San Francisco, I sensed that this was the specific call that God had been preparing in my heart. Throughout the search process and during my week in view of a call, I knew that the members of this church were seeking God diligently and that they would be able to confirm whether or not God was calling me to FirstSF. I’m so excited that the church has affirmed this calling and I’m honored to be the next pastor of FirstSF.

Pastor Ben, Alana, Ezekiel, and Levi

Ben and Alana grew up at the same church in Baton Rouge, LA. They were good friends in the youth group and began dating when they were students at LSU. After graduation, they got married and both earned their master’s degrees, Alana in math education and Ben in theology. It was after grad school that God called them to Las Vegas to serve at Green Valley Baptist Church. Ezekiel was born one month after they moved to Las Vegas and Levi came three years later.
As a family, the Days like to hang out with friends, go on hikes, and watch LSU sports. They also like to eat good food, so they look forward to hearing your recommendations or joining you for dinner! Ben loves to play sports, especially basketball, and Alana likes to spend her free time watching Hallmark movies. Zeke and Levi are full of energy and love to meet new people. They are going to miss their friends in Las Vegas, but are so excited to make new ones in San Francisco!

I'm excited and glad for the kingdom that Ben is getting this opportunity. God has been preparing Ben for years for a context like San Francisco.
